A brighter future for Bupe
Bupe (pseudonym) was only 15-years-old when she eloped with a 19-year-old man. She was physically abused throughout the relationship. Bupe tried to leave the marriage, but was unable to. Eventually, her case was picked up by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare a government ministry and passed on to the Zambia Education Every Last One (ZEELO) a World Vision sponsored project. Bupe was retrieved from the child marriage and moved to Chongwe District in Lusaka Province where she was placed in a safe house called Home of Hope, ran by Zambia Conference Catholic Bishops under the ZEELO project and re-enrolled in school. Today, Bupe, now 21, is working toward finishing school and looking forward to a brighter future.
“During the struggle to leave him, my case was brought to the attention of the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services. Through them I was encouraged to go back to school. Thanks to World Vision, I was taken back to school.”
